I can safely say that I am back…and with a freebie!!!

Well, mid teacher summer is here and I think I can safely make a dip back into the bloggy pool.  At least the shallow end anyway.  I taught second grade this year at a different school…It was an eye opening experience to say the least but I learned as much if not more than my students did.  The one thing I learned is that kids are so much more capable than we give them credit for, they just need the right motivation.  This was most evident when I was teaching writing and constructed response answers.  One goal I had this year was to get kids writing coherent answers to short answer questions.  I hated having fourth graders come in and not be able to effectively answer a question.  So I started basic and we worked on restating the question.  Simply lifting part of the question and placing it in your answer.  Second graders stepped up let me just tell ya.  They felt so grown up when I told them “guys, fourth graders don’t even do this as well as you!!!  My strategy for teaching this was the acronym RUN.  We read the task and placed a rectangle around the do word (i.e. describe or summarize).  Then we would underline the key words in the question to place as our restated portion of the response.  Then we would put any numbering or labels in our answer and get to writing.  Click on the pic for a free copy to use in your classroom.  With repeated practice and scaffolding, even my approaching students were able to write a constructed response answer.

And students NEED TO BE KIDS.  I tapped into that as much as possible this school year.  We did a lot of GoNoodle Indoor Recess Mix…They begged for brain breaks and Popsico!

My students would go gaga for these and the mega mixes allowed for the boys who don’t dance, you know the ones, to get up and get at it!  Go Noodle is a resource I will use no matter what grade I teach!  It was a great school year, a humbling learning experience and I am already turning this new school year over in my mind!!!  I hope these resources get your wheels turning as well.

Happy Independence Day!!!

I made some fonts today...

So I taught myself how to do borders...that was fun.  Now all I need is a way to convert my ipad into a drawing tablet.  Today I purchased ifontmaker and made three fonts.  My five year old made her own font as well.  Thats how easy it was!  I am including them on here for you.  Please feel free to download and use...no credit required at this time!!!  I had so much fun doing it and can't wait to make more!!!

Here are links to the fonts...I still have so much work to do before I become awesome

Hello!!!  I wanted to introduce you to the Melonheadz version of ME!!!!  Nikki over at Melonheadz Illustrating in conjunction with HoneyBunch Blog Design whipped her up for me!  I just love her so much!  She is even holding a laptop in her hand because I am forever trying to work on the go...I have three kids, a dog and a husband, a home to keep up, a classroom to keep up with, students to manage, papers to grade and the list goes on.  I have to literally walk around with the laptop in my hands and move it from room to room to get anything put together for TPT or to blog...The life of a busy momwifeteacher!!!!
Anywho...Thanks to Nikki for getting this together for me and for enduring my emails!  Love ya girl!!!

Hey All!  Happy Sunday!
I hope you are warm and snug wherever you are!  We got some ice last night...I was not expecting this and at 7 this morning when the pelting of ice on my bedroom window woke me up...I panicked and got in the four wheel drive and braved ice to get to the store.  I was out of home essentials...Oreo cookies, Nestle Quik and was running low on TP. In a house of five people (three of those are oreo cookie hounds and chocolate milk-a-holics), you DO NOT RUN OUT OF THOSE THINGS!!!

My hubs did a little decorating before the ice hit...
He made those trees...didn't even google how to do it!  I am so proud of him!!!

This is the view of the ice from my front porch...It looks beautiful but it was scary driving in it for sure!

So while I was staying home the rest of the day, I was doing my blog stalking reading and stumbled up this cute little switcheroo with a freebie and a giveaway!  Check out Deb and Joey have got cooked up!!!

The writing bulletin board and the craftivity are enough alone to get me reading!!!

Have a great evening and a wonderful tomorrow!!!

December Currently...

I am a little late to the PARTAY, but its really better late than never at all I always say!!!
I am so excited to link up with Farley for the December currently!  I wish I could hang with Farley sometime in real time...don't you?  I'd bet I'd be laughing my jingle bells off, ya know!!  I digress, back to the Currently!!!
Can I say how cute this month's currently is btw...I love the font, I love the graphics, I just love love love it!!

t

I am listening to my dryer roll and our aquariums run water through the filters. My children are nestled all snug in their beds and no Farley, I don't judge you one bit because my four year old snug and warm in MY bed as I type this...However,  I am a white noise fanatic...Can't do total silence, it is almost frightening...Maybe it makes me feel alone or enclosed...I have no idea, but something like this or a ceiling fan must be on in my house at all times...I know, total weirdee...

I am loving that all my babies are asleep.  Sleep is like contraband in this house, well it is for hubs and me anyhow...My kids like to put it on embargo and refuse to take part in it most nights.  But, it might be time for me to sleep but I have blogging to do and its my motto "I can sleep later!"

So I am taking a personal day on Friday and alls I can say it "MIGHTY WOOT WOOT!!!!"  I am going to take everyone to their usual places and I am going to shop and drop!!!  I am going to get hubs and my little Abby finished and then pick up the smallish things for the rest of our immediate family!

I want to increase my blog followers and also followers to my TPT store  http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Shearer-ly-Sadler-4th-Grade  I love blogging and selling on TPT, but I just can't see to do anything to raise my readership...If you want to help me then sign on to follow me on bloglovin and get to my store!!!

I need to finish my Christmas shopping which is the main reason for the personal day Friday.  I haven't been absent in a while so my kids were a little antsy today when I told them I would be out.

Hubs and I haven't been married all that long, eight years, but we have a Christmas tradition...Each year we go and pick out a live tree.  This was not something we did when either of us were children, but it is something we wanted our children to remember and carry onto each of their families!  this year instead of buying a cut three, we are having one dug for us and will plant it outside our house after Christmas.  Hubs wants to leave a 2013 ornament on it all year round so we can collect these trees and photograph the kids next to them.  Sounds sweet huh?  I am really excited about doing this, and so is our oldest daughter.  She is four and has asked us numerous time where the Christmas tree is!!!  Shes so funny!
So I am literally falling asleep atk to e keyboard, so night night and will talk with ya later!!

Series #2 Halloween Multiplication 2 digit times 2 digit Task Cards

I love me some task cards.  It's one of the first purchases I made on TPT!!  I love their versatility more than anything!!!  I like handing them out for exit slips!  Quick and dirty assessment and I know where you are!!!  Plus, I can give different ones to different kiddos and no one can CHEAT!!
Here is the 2 digit times 2 digit set I created for the season.  This accompanies my multi digit times 1 digit set.  Yes, I do plan to bundle them for a lower price!!!

My kids loved the first set and are looking forward to this set on Monday!  They saw me working on them today at recess.  They said, "Mrs. Sadler, you make the cutest things!!!"

Duck Dynasty Day at Shearer Elementary

This was a very fun day for our students!!  Everyone really embraced the day. And, how often is there a reality show that famines can sit down and watch together. That is my love affair with the Robertson Family...living, loving and devotion to family and the good Lord.  See how our Shearer Family embraced the day!!!

Duck Dynasty Day at Shearer Elementary...I am so HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!!!!!!!!

I am so excited for Thursday to come...#1.  It is the last day of my work week because we are on fall break until Tuesday 10/15.  And for #2.

I totally happened upon the original flyer by accident.  I was checking out to leave for the day.  My preschool aged daughters had a dentist appointment with the Devil Dentist as she is now referred to.  (I digress, story for another day, perhaps even another blog)  As I was checking out, I saw what my sweet principal had printed up.  Well, if you know the post TPT-Blog World discovered me, you should know I don't do black and white, nor do I do no graphics.  So I asked her if she minded if I ran home before I took the girls to the devil dentist and cutified this with my Melonheadz Illustrating Robertsons Tribute Bundle I got a few weeks ago...If you are a Duck Dynasty Fan at all, you have to get this set.  It has been the biggest hit in my classroom!

I called my principal after I emailed the PDF and they were already in printing and getting ready to be cut and passed out for students to take home.  I was stoked and so appreciative that my principal would let me share my new little talent with everyone!

So much fun, but so addictive.  I could just sit at my teachers desk and create all day long, but I have those pesky common core standards to teach!  But, this little digital habit of mine has made teaching a whole lot more fun and I have never been more into knowing my standards because I try to create new and original activities and lessons everyday!

Scarefest Con 2013--Teacher Finds the Cutest in the Strangest and Most Bizzare!!!!

Happy Sunday Almost Monday folks!!!  I volunteered at the Scarefest Con in Lexington, KY this weekend. My mom is a huge paranormal geek and my hubs loves the movies of the horror world. I just come to help out and spend time with them. But I have to find the cute and teachy in everything. Cute teaches right?  And I sure did find the cutest in the weirdest and most bizarre place on earth!!!

Here is their booth set up at the convention

I got to meet Rebecca Hicks, the creator of this ADORABLE group of 7 in tall characters. She is so lovely and full of energy! My favorite vendor and has been since I started attending/volunteering for this conventions  AT ONCE A MILLION LITERACY IDEAS DANCED IN MY HEAD !!!!  That's going to be a Tried It Tuesday post or a Tuesday Tech Time Post for sure!!!

I had to purchase this little guy for my desk at school!  He's a "little vampire!!  He will be so cute sitting on my desk and helping usher in one of my favorite times of the year!!!  Isn't he so cute!  My oldest daughter fell in love with him and when I told her he was going to school with me, she tried to put him in her back pack to take him to preschool with her!

This is my next cute-iful find at this freaky convention...
Hubs is a Walking Dead Fan, so I just had to get this for our youngest... He's just learning to walk so it was fitting :)

The handsome onesie model is our little son!   He's 14 months!!!

And last in my quest for cute among the creepy, I found this cutey-patootey...

Josh Gates of Destination: Truth on the SyFy channel... My mom and I were in charge of taking care of him this weekend while he did fan meet and greet.  I tried VERY VERY VERY hard not to be a dork around him, but I am a terrible conversationalist, not that there was a lot of down time to chat it up, but when there was a break in his line of fans who adore and wanted to meet him, I would trip over my own tongue and said "well", "uh" and "so" ALOT!  He is, however, an excellent conversationalist and a genuinely nice and intelligent guy!  I so totally wanted to set him up with my BFF, but sorry gals...He just got engaged!  Bummer!

So there is it all...I certainly found the cutest among the strange and bizarre!  I hope your weekend was as wonderful as mine!  Have a great week!

PS... Don't forget my giveaway...It has 13 days left!!!
