However, when the students filed in this morning, it was so quiet and calm, I didn’t even have to break out classroom dojo to keep them in line…I didn’t even have the calendar math work out because the copier was all jacked up this morning (Mondays…Yeesh!)
Most of the morning went that way. Things were calm and work ethic was good. It was really a good day to go back to work with the exception of little to no sleep.
Now my read aloud after recess went too long and math was a rushed and writing got the back burner…typical afternoon stuff but the behavior was still in check. So I deal better with lags in schedule when I am the cause of it and not the talkers.
FAstfoward to this evening after supper…I am grading papers from earlier that day and some that I just put off from Spring break. I AM SO FINISHED TAKING LATE ASSIGNMENTS…I decided that starting tonight and for the rest of my upper elemtentary career, I will not take another late assignment unless a parent notifies me. I will give extra credit opportunities, but this turning in assignments when you feel like it is over with. I am sick to death of grading things late or

I think there was a rush of giveaways that I donated to that really put me over the hump but there haven't been that many lately!!
ReplyDeleteAs for late homework.. I am right there with you! We have a miss recess policy if student's don't do their homework. from noticing these kids through the years, the majority of them are frequent flyers... parents have enabled them for years or haven't been part of the necessary piece to help the triangle of learning at home!! Good luck with your new policy. I am sure the ones who need to read it won't be the ones to complain... that is usually the way it goes!

Thanks Susan! You are awesome!
DeleteAtta girl!! Good for you for making the executive decision about not taking late homework. I'm probably too permissive when it comes to that. It's just so stinkin' hard to keep track of it all. AHHHH!! I tell kids I don't make extra copies so they better not lose them, and for the most part they don't, thank goodness!

ReplyDeleteI hear you about the late assignments. It is such a pain in the butt to take care of late assignments. I do accept them (I probably shouldn't). One of my students has a late assignment every single week, but this same student got every assignment in on time for the whole first quarter. I started a homework club thinking it would motivate her since homework isn't really an issue with my other students. I make my students turn in all assignments on time for the entire week to stay in the homework club, but I put them back in the next week if they mess up. Wouldn't you know that the girl who I specifically created this club for has NOT made homework club once!
